Communicating HDHPs and HSAs To Employees

When employees are offered a choice between a “high deductible health plan” (HDHP) and a health plan with a lower deductible, they may choose the health plan with the lower deductible without fully understanding the potential benefits of the HDHP.  Employers offering HDHPs may want to review their employee communication materials to ensure that the benefits of the HDHP are fully explained. For example, employers may wish to couple HDHP materials with Health Savings Account (HSA) materials to clarify any HSA contributions made by the employer and to reinforce the benefits of an HSA.
