The U.S Department of Labor’s new fiduciary rules generally become effective as of April 10, 2017. The new rules redefine who is a plan fiduciary. Consequently many recordkeepers and other service providers for 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans and other retirement plans currently are revising their service agreements.  Thus employers that sponsor retirement plans will need to review carefully and approve these revised service agreements to satisfy their own ERISA fiduciary responsibilities.
